Historical character and modern comfort in downtown Bar Harbor
Built by book publisher Louis Roberts in 1900, Stratford is a Tudor style cottage with interior elements of Gothic Revival. Boasting a convenient downtown location, the property has been recently updated and renovated, preserving its historical character — and updated with the comfort of our guests in mind.
There are seven spacious guest rooms in the house. Most have king size beds and all rooms have ensuite bathrooms. Stratford also offers three suites, with separate living rooms. The house provides high-speed wi-fi throughout and smart TVs in every room. Climate control has also been added throughout the house, with individual controls in each guest room.
The first floor is common space; and a large, wicker-filled solarium adorns the front of the house where guests can relax and rejuvenate. A spacious living room offers our guests space to relax and make themselves at home. The main foyer displays selections from the family’s growing art and furniture collection, featuring works from local artists.
Full breakfasts featuring family recipes are served in the beautifully restored dining room in the mornings. Guests can fuel up and get the information they need to enjoy their visit to Acadia National Park to the fullest. In the afternoon, guests may choose to return to enjoy wine and cheese with the other guests and swap tales of their adventures. Our downtown location makes it an easy walk to the free shuttle service into the park, as well as restaurants and shopping in the evening.
Stratford is the newest acquisition for a family business that has been operating inns in the Bar Harbor area since 1975. We hope you visit us and experience the hospitality and expertise we have cultivated over the years, and fall in love as we have with the beautiful place in which we live.
